Grizzly Cubs punish Artesians

Jackson Henry homered twice and drove in six runs as Franklin rolled to a 13-1 victory at Martinsville on Tuesday. Pryce Rucker and Max Clark had three hits apiece for the Grizzly Cubs (9-8, 4-4 Mid-State), with Rucker also going deep in support of winning pitcher Braeden Burton, who yielded just two hits in five innings.

Whiteland rally falls short

Host Whiteland scored three times in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t complete its comeback bid in a 5-3 loss to Decatur Central. Brayden Roy had a pair of doubles and an RBI for the Warriors (8-7, 5-4 Mid-State), while Peyton Dickens also had two hits.

Warriors defeat Hawks

Halle Nett, Josslynn Harbert and winning pitcher Kiley Sullivan each knocked in a pair of runs to help Whiteland to an 8-4 home win over Decatur Central on Tuesday. Six different players had multiple hits for the Warriors, led by Nett’s three.

Artesians edge Franklin

Franklin came up on the short end of a 7-6 decision at Martinsville. Corin Dammier homered for the Grizzly Cubs and matched teammate Adeline Blackwell with two hits.

Boys golf

Trojans get past Greyhounds

Sixth-ranked Center Grove defeated No. 10 Carmel, 303-318, in the North/South Cup on Tuesday behind a 70 from medalist Brady Schier. James Beetz (75), Nathan Springer (78) and Coen Bauschek (80) rounded out the scoring for the Trojans.

Girls tennis

Center Grove nips Cougars

No. 16 Center Grove edged No. 13 Bloomington North on Tuesday, 3-2. Ava Beecher and Lauren Dick earned a three-set victory at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans, while Sloane Small was a winner at second singles and Anna Runkle and Peri Small picked up a point at second doubles.

Grizzly Cubs blank Olympians

No. 11 Franklin picked up a 5-0 home sweep of Columbus East on Tuesday. Chelsie Rayl, Emma Williams and Mallory Luse took the three singles points for the Grizzly Cubs, while Ailyn Hendricks and Marnie Moore took a love match at first doubles and Meleah Murphy and Emma Sappenfield were winners in the No. 2 doubles spot.

Braves pick up 10th win

Indian Creek was a 4-1 winner at Indianapolis Lutheran. Lauren Lewis, Reese Tunell and Kylie Lemmon swept the singles matches for the Braves (10-3), who also got a victory from Lanie Swanson and Alexa Sichting at second doubles.

Warriors sweep Hawks

Whiteland coasted past Decatur Central, 5-0, with Ella Proctor, Candace Stephenson and Saphira Brown all winning their singles matches, Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp winning at No. 1 doubles and the team of Rowen Starns and Sara Ullrich doing the same at No. 2.

Creek girls win three-way

Indian Creek competed against Brownstown Central and Edinburgh on Tuesday, with the Braves winning the girls meet and taking second on the boys side. The girls took two of three relays and got individual victories from Abby Fleetwood (1,600 and 3,200 meters), Molly Margison (100 and long jump), Ella Taylor (high jump and 100 hurdles), Libby Dowty (800), Paige Iaria (400), Memoree Weekley (shot put) and Shelby Roach (discus). The boys also won the 4×400 and 4×800 relays and got first-place efforts from Braxton Freeman (high jump and long jump), Jackson Neibert (1,600), Brendan Conner (110 hurdles), Levi Pappas (300 hurdles) and Grant Dalton (400).
