Grizzly Cubs rout Artesians

Jackson Henry allowed just one hit over five shutout innings and helped himself with an early two-run single, leading Franklin to a 9-2 win over Martinsville on Wednesday. Landen Basey added two hits and three stolen bases for the Grizzly Cubs (10-8, 5-4 Mid-State), who took advantage of 13 walks on the evening.

Warriors fall at Hawks

Whiteland again tried to stage a late rally only to come up short in a 6-3 loss at Decatur Central. Maalik Perkins had three hits for the Warriors (8-8, 5-5 Mid-State), while Peyton Dickens drove in a pair of runs.

Edinburgh beaten by Spartans

Edinburgh took a 12-2 loss at Southwestern on Wednesday. Jared Myers and Austin Brockman had RBIs in a losing effort. The Lancers also lost to the Spartans on Tuesday, 17-7, with Riley Peavler knocking in two runs.

Lancers get outslugged

Edinburgh’s offense couldn’t quite keep pace with Terre Haute North’s in a 19-7 road loss on Wednesday. MacKenzie Bieker hit a pair of home runs for the Lancers (9-7), driving in five runs, while Gracie Crawhorn was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and two driven in.

Royals slay Dragons

Class 4A No. 2 Roncalli beat New Palestine, 13-4. Keagan Rothrock struck out 13 in the pitching win and also had four hits and three RBIs while tying the school’s career record for home runs. Abbey Hofmann and Emma Fegan also drove in three runs apiece.

Boys golf

Trojans win three-way

Center Grove posted a team score of 144 to beat Columbus North (155) and Franklin (164) at Hickory Stick on Wednesday. Carson Poe shot a 35 for the Trojans, who got rounds of 36 from Brody Holubar and James Beetz as well as 37s from Brady Schier and Coen Bauschek.

Cougars edge Cardinals

Ian Reed fired a 1-under-par 35 to lead Greenwood Christian to a 171-174 win over Southport at Southern Dunes on Tuesday.

Girls tennis

Whiteland edges Decatur

A doubles sweep lifted Whiteland to a 3-2 triumph over Decatur Central on Wednesday. Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp won at No. 1 for the Warriors (11-7), while Rowen Starns and Sara Ullrich pulled out the decisive three-setter in the second spot, 6-1, 5-7, 6-3. Candace Stephenson added a win at second singles.

Edinburgh takes shutout loss

Edinburgh was defeated by Triton Central, 5-0, on Wednesday. Jillian Turner and Gracie Myers took their match at No. 1 doubles to three sets before coming up short.
