Greenwood community band still seeking space for library

Summer is quickly approaching, and the Greater Greenwood Community Band is still seeking a space to house their music library.

For the last several years, the band has used space inside a professional building at Community Hospital South to house their music library, decorations, a workspace and a small amount of musical equipment. However, this building will soon be demolished as part of an upcoming parking expansion this summer, band officials said earlier this year.

Band officials put out a plea for help finding a new space earlier this year, but have been unsuccessful so far. They are asking for the public’s help to help them find a space, said Ashley Petitt, a member of the band’s board of directors.

The band has to be out of its current storage space by June 1, she said.

Earlier this year, band officials said they planned to consolidate some of the library’s materials to make more room in a future space. Even with that, they still need about 1,000 square feet of space for the library, equipment, decorations, workspace and copy machine.

They will also need 24/7 access to the space, but they are willing to work with people on this, Steve Roskowski, president of the band’s board of directors, said in February.

The band is also researching a storage unit to put supplies and music in until they find a more permanent solution. Still, they need recommendations for a more permanent space, Petitt said Wednesday.

Those looking to help the band find a space, or those with available space, can contact the band by emailing [email protected] or going online to greenwoodband.org/contact-us/.
