Baseball secures NCAA berth
Franklin College scored four runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth, pulling away for an 11-3 victory over Anderson in the championship game of the HCAC tournament on Sunday afternoon in Kokomo. Tysen Lipscomb had a grand slam and five RBIs for the Grizzlies (33-11), who advance to the NCAA Division III tournament for the fourth time. Matthew Johnson was the winning pitcher after working 6 2/3 solid innings.
Softball falls in tourney
Franklin College was eliminated from the HCAC tournament on Saturday with a 3-1 loss to Mount St. Joseph. Kaylee Stewart’s seventh-inning RBI single plated Molly Wallace with the lone run for the Grizzlies, who concluded the winningest season in their history at 31-14.
Whiteland grad Macy Cornelius stole a base and scored a run for the Lions (31-12).

Trojans roll past Franklin
Home runs from Grant Sawa and Carson Vlcan helped power Class 4A No. 1 Center Grove to a comfortable 14-2 win at Franklin on Saturday morning. The Trojans improve to 21-2 with the victory, which was the 200th at the school for coach Keith Hatfield.
Boys volleyball
Grizzly Cubs win sectional title
Down two sets, host Franklin stormed back for a 16-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-8 triumph over Whiteland on Saturday afternoon. The Grizzly Cubs, who had swept Martinsville in a semifinal match, advance to play Brebeuf in a regional match at Fishers this coming Saturday at 11 a.m.

Center Grove finishes first, fifth
Playing against some of the state’s top teams, Center Grove’s Red team earned a narrow victory at The Legends Invitational on Saturday, totaling 300 to defeat No. 2 Westfield by two shots. Nathan Springer led the way with a 72, followed by Brody Holubar (75), Carson Poe (76) and Drew Hardin (77). The Trojans’ White team was fifth in the 18-team field with a 309; Noah Parsetich’s 70, the second-lowest individual score overall, led the way for that group.
Roncalli finished ninth with a 320, led by Nick Stewart’s 74.
Girls tennis
Franklin sweeps home invite
No. 10 Franklin won its own invitational on Saturday, posting 5-0 sweeps of Mt. Vernon and Oldenburg Academy as well as a 4-1 victory over Floyd Central.
Boys lacrosse
Royals beaten by Carroll
Rufus Parrott scored four goals, but Roncalli came up on the short end of a 16-7 result against Fort Wayne Carroll on Saturday.
