Girls tennis

Sectional pairings released

The IHSAA revealed the pairings for the sectional tournaments on Monday evening. Host Center Grove, ranked 14th in the state’s final regular-season poll, will meet Whiteland in an opening-round match today, with the winner advancing into a Wednesday semifinal against Indian Creek. Greenwood and No. 8 Franklin play one another in the other semi, with the two surviving teams meeting for the championship on Thursday. All matches at Center Grove will start at 4:30 p.m.

In the Columbus North Sectional, Edinburgh drew a Wednesday first-round match against the host Bull Dogs, the state’s 12th-ranked team.

Warriors get past Creek

A three-set triumph from Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp at first doubles enabled Whiteland to eke out a 3-2 victory over visiting Indian Creek on Monday. Candace Stephenson and Sephora Brown added points at second and third singles for the Warriors (14-8). The Braves (13-5) got three-set wins from Lauren Lewis at first singles and the team of Lanie Swanson and Alexa Sichting at No. 2 doubles.

Lancers edged by Braves

Edinburgh took a 3-2 defeat against Brownstown Central. Zoey Sida earned a three-set win at No. 2 singles for the Lancers, while Izzy Richardson won in straight sets in the No. 3 spot.

Royals defeat Quakers

Roncalli was a 4-1 winner over Plainfield. Becca Zakrowski, Lily Rutherford and Kate Rittenhouse swept the singles points for Roncalli, while Elsie Kerr and Morgan Vaught added a victory at No. 1 doubles.

Baseball

Trojans fall to Eagles

Class 4A No. 1 Center Grove came up on the wrong end of a 4-1 score against visiting Zionsville on Monday. The loss drops the Trojans to 21-3 on the season.

Softball

Whiteland edges Triton Central

Winning pitcher Kiley Sullivan helped her cause with a pair of hits as Whiteland held on for a 4-3 home win over Triton Central. Ava Smith added a triple for the Warriors (13-9).

Boys golf

Cougars place third

Greenwood Christian dropped a tight three-way match with Heritage Christian and Cathedral, posting a team score of 161 to finish six and four strokes back of the opposition at Maple Creek. Ian Reed was the individual medalist with a 36 for the Cougars, while Noah Reed was close behind with a 37.
