College notebook: Bass hits three home runs at NAIA World Series

The Taylor University baseball team completed its season with a 42-17 record after winning its first two games and losing its next two at the NAIA World Series.

Senior outfielder and former Greenwood player T.J. Bass made his time in Lewiston, Idaho memorable, going 6 of 20 at the plate with three home runs and a double. His final round-tripper made Bass the school’s career hits leader with 276. He’s also the Trojans’ all-time leader in home runs (64), walks and runs batted in.

Greenwood

Freshman outfielder Anna Pritchett completed the Knights’ five games with four hits, four runs scored and two stolen bases as the Marian softball team finished fourth at the NAIA World Series for a final record of 52-9.

Senior hurdler Nick Patton is one of 11 members of the Franklin College men’s track and field team to be named to the academic all-conference team.

Center Grove

Junior Kiyah Yeast ran on Louisville’s 4×100 relay team, which qualified for the NCAA outdoor women’s track and field championships. Seeded 19th at the East preliminaries, the Cardinals ran a program-record time of 44.10 seconds to place eighth.

The Northwestern softball team made it all the way to the NCAA super regionals, but lost two of three games to host Alabama to finish the season with a 42-13 mark. Senior catcher Jordyn Rudd singled twice in a 3-1 victory in the opener, and finished the series with four hits.

Indiana Wesleyan baseball’s debut in the NAIA World Series resulted in two victories in four games. Sophomore pitcher Drue Young took the loss in the opener, a 12-4 setback at the hands of host Lewis-Clark State College, allowing seven hits and six runs in his three innings.

Franklin College senior pitcher Jackson Young was named second-team All-Region 8 by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Young finished 8-1 for the Grizzlies, leading the team in innings pitched (88 1/3), strikeouts (78) and complete games (two). Young was also one of the 39 spring athletes at Franklin College named to the academic all-conference list, along with junior lacrosse player Baleigh Riddle.

Alabama junior second baseman Bryce Eblin singled in his team’s 9-2 loss to Vanderbilt at the SEC baseball tournament.

Indian Creek

Senior pitcher Dustin Sprong worked one inning of middle relief in the opener, a 7-3 loss to Westmont (California), as the University of the Cumberlands baseball squad lost its two games at the NAIA World Series.

Franklin

Brayden Devenport, Eli Cochrane and Wyatt McCullough, all juniors on Franklin College’s men’s track and field team, were named academic all-conference.
