Robert “Bob” Lewis Hensley

Robert “Bob” Lewis Hensley, 94, passed away on May 31, 2023 after a long, happy, and satisfying life. He was a lifetime resident of Franklin.

Bob was born on August 2, 1928 at his home in Franklin to Lewis L. Hensley and Maggie Mearl (Lane) Hensley. He married Ruthann (Grooms) Hensley on August 5, 1950. They shared 66 years together before her passing on November 5, 2016.

He is survived by his children, Thomas L. Hensley (Sherry) and Julia E. Eastes (David); grandchildren, Mark Hensley (Jessica), Allison Henry (Israel), and Andrew Hensley (Whitney); great-grandchildren, Tristan Hensley, Jordan Hensley, Danielle Hensley, Jackson Henry, Parker Henry, Claire Hensley, and Everly Hensley; and great-great grandson, Grayson Hensley.

Bob was preceded in passing by his parents, Lewis and Mearl; wife, Ruthann; and siblings, Oren Hensley, Lorene Caton, and Claribel Deer.

He was a 1945 graduate of Franklin Community High School.

Bob was a lifetime grain farmer in Franklin and a hog farmer for many years. He spent many years volunteering at the weigh station at the Johnson County Fairgrounds.

He was a member of the Lion’s Club where he was the recipient of the Melvin Jones award. He spent many hours volunteering at Camp Wood Smoke and maintaining the mint route for the Lion’s Club. He was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Bob spent many hours in Camp Atterbury, with assistance from fellow Lion’s Club member Jimmie Van Fleet, maintaining the wood duck and blue bird boxes.

He was an accomplished woodworker and meticulous workman. He loved watching basketball and baseball. Bob was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and mushroom hunting. His patience, subtle sense of humor, and gentlemanly ways were well known.

Bob was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by many.

A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home in Franklin is assisting the family with arrangements.
