FEMA sending postcards to disaster aid applicants

People who have applied for federal assistance for Indiana’s March 31 – April 1 storms, FEMA may soon be getting a postcard. The postcard will let applicants know that FEMA is trying to contact them, and ask them to call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. FEMA asks applicants to call as soon as possible so officials can move the application forward.

FEMA is offering tips to help people move their applications forward.

People who use a relay service such as video relay service (VRS) or captioned telephone service, should give FEMA the number for that service.

People who have insurance should send FEMA their insurance documents. These could include letters showing what a settlement covered, that the claim was denied, or that the claim has been delayed for more than 30 days. FEMA can’t duplicate insurance benefits, so officials need to see that their losses aren’t already paid for in order to cover them.

To submit documents: call the helpline, visit DisasterAssistance.gov, or download the FEMA App for mobile devices.
