Roads close, another opens for I-69 project

Major closures will continue on Interstate 465 for the I-69 Finish Line project this week, while a new roundabout opens in Bargersville.

An eastbound directional closure for I-465 between Interstate 70 and Interstate 65 on the southwest side of Indianapolis started Friday and will be closed through June 21. During that time, construction crews will add lane capacity, perform necessary road surface upgrades and place under-pavement pipework to improve drainage in preparation for Interstate 69 opening through Marion County next year, according to a weekly construction update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

The official detour follows I-70 East to Interstate 65 at the South Split, which may slow traffic during peak hours.

The following ramps are also closed:

• I-70 East and West to I-465 South and East;

• Kentucky Avenue/State Road 67 to and from I-465 East;

• Mann Road to I-465 East;

• Harding Street/State Road 37 to and from I-465 East;

• East Street/U.S. 31 to and from I-465 East.

I-465 West lanes will remain open until July, after I-465 East lanes reopen, INDOT officials say.

In Johnson County, Mullinix Road east of State Road 37 is closed between Smith Valley Road and Olive Branch Road for roundabout construction at Smith Valley Road and Mullinix Road. The construction should be done by the time school opens in early August. Another roundabout, at State Road 144 west of the I-69 interchange, is expected to open this week, and workers will remove the traffic signal at Waverly Park Road, INDOT officials say.

Waverly Park Road south of Huggin Hollow Road is closed to traffic for the next three weeks for road reconstruction. Drivers can follow a detour on Huggin Hollow Road to Waverly Park Road to access State Road 144, and trucks can use Waverly Park Road south to Waverly Road to Whiteland Road to County Road 144, INDOT officials say.

A temporary ramp from southbound State Road 37 to Southport Road opened Sunday, removing access from Banta Road to State Road 37 as workers deactivated a signal at Banta Road. Barricades block access between the two roads, INDOT officials say.
