Help stuff the bus Saturday at local Walmarts

With schools across the county starting up in the coming weeks, the United Way of Johnson County is collecting school supplies to help low-income students be prepared for the first day of school. Organizers anticipate the annual Fast Track Program will serve more than 1,700 children this year.

Donations to the program can be made directly to United Way of Johnson County at its office at 594 Ironwood Drive, Franklin; at local businesses with collection boxes or at “Stuff the Bus” events.

Local businesses with collection boxes include: Johnson County Public Library branches, and Johnson County branches of First Merchants Bank, Home Bank, Horizon Bank and Mutual Savings Bank.

Three “Stuff the Bus” events will occur this year from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The events will take place at the Walmart locations at 2125 N. Morton St., Franklin; 1133 N. Emerson St., Greenwood, and the Franklin Walmart, the Walmart at State Road 135 and Smith Valley Road, and 882 S. SR 135, Greenwood.

Requested items requested include: art boxes, backpacks, calculators, colored pencils, composition notebooks, crayons (boxes of 24), dry-erase markers, earbuds, two-pocket plastic folders, highlighters, index cards, markers, mechanical pencils, pencil pouches, scissors, sharpies, spiral notebooks (college or wide-ruled), three-ring binders (1-inch).

Due to generous donations, the United Way of Johnson County is well-stocked on pens, erasers and rulers.
