Franklin, Trafalgar and New Whiteland wrap up uncontested races

Republicans in Franklin, Trafalgar and New Whiteland cruised to victory with no opposition.

Here’s a roundup of uncontested races:

Franklin roundup

Franklin elected a mayor, clerk-treasurer, judge and city council members, all with no opposition.

Republican Steve Barnett secured his second full term as mayor. Barnett first won a caucus vote in 2017 to take over the office and then won the election in 2019.

Jan Jones will take over as Clerk-Treasurer, replacing Jayne Rhoades who is retiring at the end of the year.

City Judge K. Mark Loyd as well as City Council members Josh Prine, Anne McGuinness, Jennifer Price, Ken Austin, and Irene Nalley will all retain their positions.

Todd. A Shuck officially replaced Bob Heuchan as city council at-large. In an interview during the primary, Shuck said he wants to ensure that the city’s growth is the right kind of growth.

Shawn Taylor retained his at-large seat on the city council. In an interview during the primary, Taylor said one of his top goals would be to continue with the current housing development and produce youth sports facilities including new fields for soccer and revamped baseball fields.

Trafalgar roundup

Trafalgar Town Council candidates who won in the primary cruised to victory. The council will be comprised of Jackie Bryant, Ashley Chaney, Jessica Jones, Mike Peters and Jason Ramey.

During the primary, Bryant, Chaney and Peters unseated current council members Jeff Eisenmenger and Kyle Siegfred.

Current council members Jones and Ramey will hold onto their seats for another four years.

Bryant was inspired to run because he thought the previous council members were not addressing certain problems quickly enough, including some of the town’s draining issues, she previously said. He looks to promote growth, bring more jobs into the area and has a goal to see the town get a small grocery store.

Chaney wishes to promote unity between the council members and the town. She wants to be open-minded to all citizens of Trafalgar and promote transparency from the council, she said. She also longs to embrace change as the town grows with new subdivisions and businesses.

Jones would like to continue to review the town’s ordinances and promote town efficiency, she said. Jones would also like to apply for more grants to improve the quality of life including the potential revitalization of Trafalgar’s downtown area.

Peters has lived in Trafalgar for 28 years and wants to ensure town employees are kept in check and are doing their jobs.

Ramey will continue for a third term on the council. He wants to finish improving the town, but his number one priority is retaining quality employees including recruiting and retaining police officers.

Current Clerk-Treasurer Donna Moore also retains her seat.

New Whiteland roundup

Angela K. Devoss retains her position as Clerk-Treasurer, while council members Chad Wright, John Perrin and Dennis Combs will reprise their roles on the New Whiteland Town Council.
