Franklin graduate completes state police academy

A Franklin Community High School graduate has completed from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy.

Payton Parker, a 2019 Franklin graduate, was part of the 84th recruit academy class, joining 27 other recruits. She and her classmates spent 24 weeks in training and completed more than 1,000 hours of instruction in areas such as criminal and traffic law, de-escalation tactics and firearms.

Parker graduated from Purdue University in May, before going straight into the Indiana State Police Academy in June. She received the Superintendent’s Award at her graduation from the academy. S

The graduates will be assigned to one of 14 state police posts across Indiana, where they will spend the next three months doing field training there before going on solo patrols.

Parker will start her trooper career on Jan. 2 in Lafayette. She hopes to pursue a criminal scene investigation position within the state police.
