College notebook: Bonser, Mayhew fare well for UIndy track

Greenwood graduate Emily Bonser set a new personal best in the shot put (41 feet, 3 inches), placing third, as the University of Indianapolis track and field teams competed in the Lewis Invite indoor meet. On the men’s side, Dylan Mayhew was third in the weighted throw (56-8) and fourth in the shot put (50-10).

Greenwood

Anderson men’s basketball player Gavin Dowling had six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Ravens’ 104-77 triumph over Transylvania. In a 94-72 win against Earlham, Downing had two points, four boards and two assists.

Franklin

Junior swimmer Ethan Pheifer was part of Ball State’s victorious 200 medley relay in a time of 1 minute, 33.37 seconds in a meet at Bellarmine. Pheifer also took fourth in the 100 butterfly (52.69) and competed for the winning 400 freestyle relay (3:09.94).

Franklin College senior Eli Cochrane won the 1,000-meter run in 2:43.32 at the Anderson indoor track and field invitational. Teammate Drew McGaha placed sixth in the 600-meter run (1:27.21).

Radford sophomore Ashlyn Traylor-Walker scored 17 points, grabbed seven rebounds and had two assists in a 67-61 win over USC Upstate.

Huntington guard Kyndell Jochim had three points and two rebounds in the women’s basketball team’s 91-61 loss at St. Francis. In a 76-59 decision over Mt. Vernon, she finished with 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Franklin College freshman Dylan Beverly totaled four points, three points and two assists in the team’s 91-62 victory over visiting Bluffton.

Center Grove

Hayden Watson, a wrestler for The Citadel, won a 2-0 match at 157 pounds a his team knocked off Bellarmine, 27-3.

IUPUI sophomore Skyler Sichting ran a personal-best time in the 200-meter dash (27.82) as the Jaguars’ women’s track and field team competed in the Bellarmine Classic. At the same meet, Louisville senior Kiyah Yeast recorded one of the Cardinals’ all-time top 10 times in the 200, running a 24.03.

Indiana freshman Garrett Messer soared 20 feet, 10¾ inches to place seventh in the long jump during the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame. He also took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (8.52 seconds).

Northern Kentucky junior Ashlee Fisk lost her No. 1 singles tennis match against Chattanooga, 6-3, 6-2, and dropped her match at No. 3 doubles, 6-3.

Indiana sixth-year golfer Noah Gillard finished his two rounds at 2 under par to tie for fourth place individually at the Battle at Briar’s Creek.

Ball State swimmer Ben Clarkston helped the Cardinals win at Bellarmine by winning the 50 freestyle in 21.20 seconds, and the 100 free in 47.33 while also swimming on the first-place 200 medley relay.

Freshman guard Marcus Ankney scored three points, grabbed two rebounds, and had two assists and two steals as Indiana Wesleyan men’s basketball won at Bethel, 102-88. He finished with 10 points, four rebounds and an assist in IWU’s 83-73 victory over Spring Arbor.

Vermont guard Emma Utterback scored four points in a 66-57 loss at Binghamton.

Guard Ella Thompson finished with five points and four assists as Bentley defeated Adelphi, 64-39. She added 16 points, five rebounds and two assists in a 72-71 home loss to Southern New Hampshire.

Senior guard Claire Rake led Truman State with 16 points in a 80-61 home loss to Missouri-St. Louis.

Indian Creek

Freshman guard Abby Fleetwood had five points and three rebounds as Spring Arbor women’s basketball defeated Grace College, 66-55. She had two points, four boards and two assists in an 81-44 loss at Indiana Wesleyan.

Whiteland

Ball State freshman Brooklyn Taylor placed 23rd in the shot put and 30th in the weighted throw during the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame.

Southern Indiana men’s tennis opened the spring portion of its season with three matches. In a 7-0 win over Thomas More, junior Quinten Gillespie won at No. 4 singles, 6-4, 6-3, and was part of the No. 2 doubles tandem that prevailed, 7-5.

Manchester guard Logan Willoughby scored 12 points, collected four rebounds and made two steals in a 74-67 loss at Hanover; freshman Austin Willoughby had two points, five boards and blocked a shot. In an 85-82 home loss to Franklin College, Logan scored six points and Austin two.

Greenwood Christian

Junior guard Izzy Reed scored eight points as Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball won at home against Spring Arbor, 81-44.
