Indian Creek boys basketball pulls out OT win

Indian Creek’s bid for a second sectional championship in as many years survived a scare Wednesday night at Owen Valley.

The Braves eliminated South Vermillion, 58-49, in overtime, a five-quarter snapshot of survive-and-advance if ever there was one.

“The score was tied, 45-45, and they called a foul on us with 0.8 seconds left, and their player missed both free throws,” said Indian Creek coach Drew Glentzer, who had signaled timeout between attempts. “It was a nasty grinder. We played hard at times, but it was an ugly game.

“In overtime, it was almost like a burden was lifted. Our kids were like, ‘We’re winning now.’ I think overtime was the wakeup call we needed. We’re very fortunate to be moving on, that’s for sure.”

The Braves (15-8), who entered the postseason having won only three of their last 10 games — five of the losses were by six or fewer points — converted only seven of 17 attempts from the free throw line against South Vermillion (14-9).

Junior guard Adam Crouch paced Indian Creek with 23 points. Junior forward Bobby Emberton added 14, while senior guard Carter Modlin produced 11.

The Braves return to Spencer on Friday for the 7:30 p.m. semifinal against Edgewood.
