UIndy hosting free financial planning event Saturday

The University of Indianapolis is hosting a free Financial Planning Day on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone in the community is welcome come talk to a certified financial professional on a wide variety of topics. The event is a partnership between the UIndy School of Business, the Financial Planning Association of Central Indiana and the Indiana Secretary of State, according to the university.

Community members are invited to receive free one-on-one financial advice from certified professionals on a variety of topics including:

  • taxes,
  • credit counseling,
  • retirement planning,
  • investing,
  • personal budgeting,
  • government benefits.

Experts from around Indianapolis are offering typically pricey advice on a volunteer basis, said Matt Will, a professor of finance at UIndy who is helping organize the event alongside the Student Business Leadership Academy.

“Financial Planning Day is an incredible opportunity for people to help themselves with free advice from skilled financial professionals who are volunteering their time and expertise. Something that usually costs hundreds of dollars is available for free,” Will said in a statement on the event. “Financial Planning Day is an excellent example of UIndy’s motto: ‘Education for Service.’ This event allows the community to get priceless financial advice for free from the best financial planners in the city.”

The event is taking place Saturday at the Schwitzer Student Center. Parking is available outside Schwitzer Student Center located at 1400 Campus Drive, near the intersection of Hanna Avenue.

Translators are available to assist Spanish and Chin speakers.

Pre-registration is encouraged but walk-ins are welcome. For more information, visit money.uindybiz.com/.
