College notebook: Jackson second in high jump at conference meet

Lipscomb sophomore Bella Jackson tied her personal best in the high jump at 5 feet, 9¾ inches to place second at the ASUN indoor track and field championships. The former Whiteland standout also took eighth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.26 seconds.

Whiteland

Senior pitcher Luke Helton worked the first six innings, allowing four hits and striking out eight, as Morehead State baseball downed North Alabama, 5-2.

Junior Macy Cornelius finished with totals of five hits, including a triple, and three runs scored as Mount St. Joseph softball won two of four games in Montgomery, Alabama.

Junior guard Logan Willoughby had 15 points, three assists and two steals for Manchester men’s basketball in a 75-73 loss to Anderson in the semifinals of the HCAC tournament.

Center Grove

Sophomore Anna Krejsa won the 123-pound weight class as Life University women’s wrestling won the Mid-South Conference tournament.

Indiana freshman Garrett Messer compiled 5,003 points to place eighth in the heptathlon at the Big Ten indoor track and field meet. Along the way, Messer established new personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (8.39 seconds), pole vault (11-5¾) and 1,000-meter run (2:45.30).

Senior first baseman Lexi Fair finished with a double, three singles and an RBI as Southern Indiana softball played five games in a tournament at Jacksonville State.

Senior third baseman Kaci Finchum helped Mount St. Joseph softball win two of four games in Alabama with three hits and a run scored.

Indiana Wesleyan pitcher Drue Young picked up the win in the baseball team’s 5-0 win over St. Ambrose, allowing four hits and striking out nine batters over seven innings.

Morehead State baseball lost to North Alabama, 9-6, with losing pitcher Grant Herron giving up six hits and seven runs while fanning six in five innings.

Adam Taylor singled for the Franklin College baseball team in its 10-6 win over Rhodes to open the season. In a 7-1 loss to Webster, pitcher Jackson Young took the loss by allowing five hits while striking out six in his six innings on the hill. In FC’s 18-14 loss to North Central, Taylor scored five of the team’s runs.

Alabama second baseman Bryce Eblin accounted for three hits, including a double, and also stole a base in a three-game sweep of visiting Valparaiso. Eblin swatted his first home run of the season, singled twice and drove in two runs in the team’s 9-7 defeat of UAB.

Sophomore shortstop Tyler Cerny finished Indiana baseball’s three-game sweep of host Baylor with four hits, including a double, and a stolen base. He singled and scored a run in IU’s 9-6 home loss to Purdue Fort Wayne.

Truman State senior guard Claire Rake finished with 14 points and six rebounds in the women’s basketball team’s 72-69 home loss to Quincy.

Senior guard Emma Utterback scored 10 points, four rebounds and four assists for Vermont in its 57-52 loss at Bryant.

Bentley guard Ella Thompson had 11 points, seven assists and four rebounds in the team’s 63-60 victory over Pace. In a 72-57 win against Southern Connecticut State, Thompson had 25 points, four boards and three blocked shots.

Franklin

Damon Dickey tied for 23rd individually with scores of 70 and 69 as Butler men’s golf placed ninth of 17 teams at the Dorado Beach Collegiate.

Drew McGaha was part of Franklin College’s men’s distance relay that finished third at the HCAC indoor track and field meet, posting a time of 10:55.30. McGaha was also part of the fourth-place 4×400 relay along with Eli Cochrane, their time being 3:35.62.

Huntington freshman guard Kyndell Jochim scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds in a 71-57 loss to Spring Arbor in the Crossroads League women’s basketball tournament.

Greenwood

Franklin College senior Mallory Watson was part of the victorious women’s medley relay at the HCAC indoor track and field meet in 13:39.55.

University of Indianapolis junior thrower Emily Bonser placed third in the weighted throw at the GLVC indoor track and field meet. On the men’s side, UIndy sophomore Dylan Mayhew was fourth in the weighted throw.

Marian softball opened the season with two wins IU Southeast. Sophomore center fielder Anna Pritchett contributed a single in each game, drove in a total of two runs and scored three.

First baseman Kiley Hankenhoff tripled twice and drove in three runs during Mount St. Joseph’s four-game softball trip to Montgomery, Alabama.

Senior catcher Lexy Rees finished play with four singles, a double and five RBIs as the UIndy softball team won three of four games at the Blue Ridge Battle. Teammate Dominique Proctor singed four times and drove in three runs.

Quinn Kelly scored nine points, grabbed two rebounds and made two steals as Taylor women’s basketball defeated visiting Bethel, 81-61. In a 114-62 loss to Indiana Wesleyan, Kelly had two points and two assists.

Indian Creek

Spring Arbor guard Abby Fleetwood scored eight points and made two steals in a 74-58 home loss to St. Francis. In a 71-57 defeat of Huntington in the Crossroads League tournament, she finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Greenwood Christian

Indiana Wesleyan women’s basketball closed the regular season with a 68-65 loss at Marian that included five points and a rebound from junior guard Izzy Reed. She scored nine points and had two assists in IWU’s 114-62 victory over Taylor.

Roncalli

Florida softball handily won all five games at its own tournament, a performance that included freshman pitcher Keagan Rothrock (Whiteland) picking up two of the wins. Rothrock totaled 9 1/3 innings in the circle, allowing one hit and striking out 21 batters.
