Eligible residents have a little less than a month to register to vote for this year’s primary elections.
Hoosiers have until April 8 to register to vote in the May 7 primary elections. Under Indiana law, legal adults who are U.S. citizens are eligible to vote as long as they meet certain criteria.
To register, a resident must:
- be a U.S. citizen and an Indiana resident;
- have resided in their voting precinct at least 30 days before the next election;
- be at least 18 years old on the day of the election;
- not currently be in prison after being convicted of a crime.
Residents can go online to register at indianavoters.in.gov. Johnson County residents can also register in-person by visiting the county voter registration office at the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin, or any license branch.
Because the county government will be closed on April 8 due to the solar eclipse, the deadline to register in-person will be extended by one day, until the end of business on April 9. The online deadline remains unchanged.
Those who are already registered are encouraged to check their registrations before voting at indianavoters.in.gov. Those who register at license branches should confirm with Johnson County Voter Registration that their information was sent over properly.
The deadline for absentee ballot applications is noon on March 23. Voters can apply online at indianavoters.in.gov or in person at Johnson County Voter Registration.
