Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 4 p.m. Thursday

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 4 p.m. this afternoon for 39 Indiana counties — including Johnson County.

The National Weather Service says periods of thunderstorms will occur across Central Indiana today and tonight. While any storm could become severe late this morning and through tonight, the best chance for severe potential will be between 6 p.m. tonight and 2 a.m. Friday morning.

Hail and wind gusts are the primary threats, and a few tornadoes are possible. Flooding is also a threat, the weather service says.

The NWS encourages the public to be weather aware, have multiple ways to receive warnings, have a safety plan in place and be ready to act when severe weather is imminent. For more preparedness tips, check out this Daily Journal story from yesterday.
