Albert Samuel Tavenor

On March 15, 2024, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Albert Samuel Tavenor passed away at the age of 98. He was a 1943 graduate of Manual High School, where he met the love of his life Wilma in the marching band. He was in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946.

After receiving a degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue and an MBA from Butler, Albert spent the majority of his life in the Indianapolis area, even as his forty-one year career for Uniroyal-Goodrich took him to Detroit, Akron, and travels around the world.

Family formed the foundations of Albert’s life, and he always looked forward to them gathering in Indianapolis each year for the Indianapolis 500. For all his time in Indianapolis, he was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Southport, the place where he built his devotion to God, and where he served on many of its boards during his lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Wilma who passed away on May 9, 2012, and cherished daughter, Janet who passed away on May 22, 1991 and brother, Bill Tavenor who passed away February 21, 2021.

He leaves behind sons, Albert (Nancy), Tom (Susan), and son-in-law Mike. Albert has seven grandchildren: Dale (Elizabeth), Laura, Amy (John), Katie (Nathan), Nathan (Kristen), Daniel (Faith), and Christopher (Kim). He has six great-grandchildren: Payton, Jake, Dylan, Oona, Zoe, Samuel, and another on the way.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 22 from 11am to 1pm, with a service at 1pm at G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home and Cremation Center (1605 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46143). He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, where military graveside rites will be conducted.
