Greenwood man arrested with meth, AR-15 in North Vernon

A Greenwood man was arrested on felony drug and weapons charges Sunday near North Vernon.

Troopers with the Indiana State Police Versailles Post arrested Christopher Spall, 33, following a welfare check. While patrolling U.S. 50 west of North Vernon on Sunday morning, troopers observed a black SUV stalled in the roadway. The vehicle was partially blocking the eastbound lanes, so the troopers stopped to check on the driver and see if they needed help, according to a news release from ISP.

The driver, later identified as Spall said he did not need any assistance. However, troopers observed signs of possible drug activity in the vehicle, the release says.

Troopers then deployed ISP’s K-9 Bosco to sniff search the vehicle and he detected drugs. During a search of the vehicle, officers located approximately 23 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a loaded AR-15-style rifle, marijuana and paraphernalia, the release says.

Spall was booked into Jennings County Jail on the following charges:

  • Possession of a firearm by a felon with prior conviction as a Level 5 Felony,
  • Possession of marijuana as a Class B Misdemeanor,
  • Possession of paraphernalia as a Class C Misdemeanor.

The Jennings County Prosecutor’s Office will decide, what, if any charges to formally file.
