College notebook: Parsetich leads IWU women’s golf to win

Freshman Sage Parsetich picked up medalist honors while leading the Indiana Wesleyan women’s golf team to the title at the Purgatory Intercollegiate Invite. The former Center Grove player shot scores of 76 and 72.

Center Grove

Freshman right fielder Garrison Barile singled twice and drove in a run for Miami of Ohio baseball in a 7-4 victory at Northern Illinois. He also singled in a 1-0 loss to the Huskies.

Indiana shortstop Tyler Cerny had a sacrifice fly to bring in his team’s lone run in a 9-1 loss to Illinois. Cerny scored a run and drove in another as the Hoosiers responded with a 8-1 victory. In the series finale, a 15-8 loss, the sophomore had three singles and scored two runs. He then scored two runs in IU’s 12-5 win over Middle Tennessee.

Freshman catcher Grant Sawa drove in a run for Purdue Fort Wayne in its 11-2 win over Wright State.

Alabama senior Bryce Eblin singled and scored a run in a 9-5 loss at Georgia.

Franklin College senior Jackson Young got the start, and took the loss in a 7-4 loss to Rose-Hulman, pitching four innings and allowing six hits. Senior catcher Adam Taylor singled, drove in a run and scored one.

Indiana Wesleyan’s 13-9 loss in baseball to St. Francis saw junior pitcher Drue Young allow eight hits and strike out three in five innings.

Senior Trey Thixton lost his match at No. 1 doubles but won at the top singles spot as Indiana Wesleyan men’s tennis won at Georgetown (Kentucky), 4-3.

Southern Indiana first baseman Lexi Fair tripled and drove in a run in a 3-2 victory at Lindenwood. She singled and drove in a run in a 2-1 win to conclude the series.

Mount St. Joseph senior third baseman Kaci Finchum doubled and drove in a run in a 10-8 loss at Denison.

Franklin

Senior Sarah Hoffman earned second team All-America status by swimming a season-best time of 17:13.22 in the 1,650-yard freestyle to place 16th as Kenyon College won its 25th NCAA Division III women’s swimming and diving national championship. Hoffman was also 29th in the 400 individual medley and 32nd in the 500 freestyle.

Greenwood

Indiana senior wrestler Nick Willham posted a 1-2 record at 285 pounds during the NCAA Championships, winning his first match by a score of 11-4.

UIndy softball improved to 29-2 by sweeping doubleheaders against Rockhurst and William Jewell. Over the course of the four games, Lexy Rees had four hits, including a double and home run, while Dominique Proctor had five hits and drove in four runs.

Franklin College senior Mallory Watson placed 17th in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5 minutes, 29.59 seconds at the Pioneer Invite at Transylvania.

Indian Creek

Senior pitcher Dylan Sprong struck out five batters over three no-hit innings for Franklin College baseball in its 17-0 win over Defiance.

Whiteland

Trine sophomore pitcher Debbie Hill improved to 5-0 on the season, allowing one hit, striking out six and doubling twice in the team’s 9-0 win at Ohio Northern. She hit a three-run home run in a 10-0 triumph in the second game.

Junior left fielder Macy Cornelius singled, doubled and drove in three runs for Mount St. Joseph in a 6-3 victory at Denison. She singled and drove in a run in the second game, a 10-8 loss.

Morehead State senior pitcher Luke Helton worked 6 1/3 innings in a 6-0 loss to Little Rock, giving up 11 hits and striking out six.

Roncalli

Florida freshman pitcher Keagan Rothrock (Whiteland) helped the Gators defeat Kentucky, 10-2, allowing five hits and striking out seven in her five innings. She also pitched a complete game in a 7-1 win over the Wildcats, giving up four hits and fanning two.
