Franklin College

Softball opens HCAC play with sweep

Franklin College won its first two conference games of the season in walk-off fashion, earning victories by 5-4 and 4-3 scores on Saturday afternoon against Mount St. Joseph. Molly Wallace clubbed a two-run double to end the opener for the Grizzlies (11-5, 2-0 HCAC), while Kendall Lowry’s second RBI single of the game sealed the nightcap.

Center Grove grad Kaci Finchum had two hits on the day for the visiting Lions, including an RBI double.

Baseball claims series finale

Playing the rubber match of a three-game series at Manchester on Saturday, Franklin College scored six runs in the top of the first and rolled to a 16-7 victory. Garrett DeHart hit a three-run homer as part of a four-RBI day for the Grizzlies (13-7, 4-3 HCAC), while Sean Sullivan was 4 for 5 with four runs scored and four driven in. Tysen Lipscomb and Anthony Smith had three-hit days, with Smith hitting a home run.

Track and field competes in Hanover

Franklin College took part in the Panther Invitational at Hanover on Saturday, with the women landing in fifth place and the men finishing seventh. Sarah O’Day was the Grizzlies’ lone winner, crossing the line first in the women’s 100-meter dash (12.57 seconds), while Alison Muck was second in the high jump and third in the 100 hurdles. Vicki Arney added a third-place effort in the women’s 400 meters, and Logan McIntosh paced the men with a runner-up finish in the javelin.
