JCPL Column: Library hosts local author fair

Many of us aspire to someday write a book; lucky for you, some of your neighbors have made that dream a reality!

Johnson County is home to a wide variety of authors, including some bestsellers and award-winners. No matter your age or reading interests, finding an appealing book by a local author is not hard. There is so much talent right here in our community.

If you don’t know where to start, mark your calendars for April 13. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Clark Pleasant branch of the library — it’s JCPL’s Local Author Fair with 45 authors in attendance. There will be authors of picture books, memoirs, young adult novels, Christian self-help, gardening essays, poetry, romance, non-fiction and more. There is a little bit of everything. Attendees can chat with authors, purchase books, enter to win giveaways and add to their ever-growing TBR (to-be-read) pile.

Of the 45 authors, 26 are from Johnson County, and the others come from Brown County, Indianapolis and some of the surrounding doughnut counties. Greenwood boasts the most authors in attendance with 10, Franklin with five, Whiteland and New Whiteland each have three, Bargersville and Nineveh each have two, and Center Grove area has one.

Here is a small sampling of all the wonderful authors that you can meet on April 13:

Bethany Bauerle (Greenwood) wrote her debut children’s picture book, “My Brother is AU-Mazing!” is inspired by her two children. Her 11-year-old son, who has non-verbal autism, and her 6-year-old daughter both mean the world to her and inspire her every single day.

Lori Borgman (Indianapolis) is a newspaper columnist (for this paper), author, and speaker. Some of her books include: “What Happens at Grandma’s Stays at Grandma’s: Stories That Celebrate the Joy and Chaos of Grandparenting,” “I Was a Better Mother Before I Had Kids,” and “All Stressed Up and No Place to Go.”

A.D. Ellis (Whiteland) is a romance novelist. She writes addictive, sexy, emotional M/M romance. Some books include “Silver and Sage,” “His Reluctant Cowboy,” “Adore” and “Holly Hills Christmas.”

Brianna Wilson (Franklin) also loves reading fantasy books, a good cup of coffee, and brisk October days. If you’re a fan of the big “romantasy” novels like” Fourth Wing” and “ACOTAR,” then her debut novel, “Throne of Betrayal,” will be a perfect treat for you.

Joyce Long (Greenwood) taught as an adjunct writing instructor at IUPUI after graduating from Ball State University in 1976 and later was a language arts teacher at Greenwood Middle School. She has written two books: “Real Mothers: A Bible Study About Mothers for Mothers,” and “Trinity: Walk in Love, Forgiveness and Peace.”

Carol J. Michel (Indianapolis). If your neighbors don’t think you’re a little crazy, you need to up your gardening game. Carol is the award-winning author of a trilogy of gardening humor books, a book about garden creatures, and one children’s book.

We hope you can join us on April 13 and meet members of our local author community.
