Grizzly Cubs rally past Braves

Franklin stormed back late to force extra innings and then scored in the eighth for a 6-5 home win over Indian Creek on Saturday afternoon. Aubrey Leugers hit a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Grizzly Cubs (2-2), who got three hits from Addie Martin and three runs scored from Adeline Blackwell. Bryleigh Carlisle-Haltom earned the relief win. The Braves (1-2) were led by Addie Schaub’s three hits.

Trojans win opening tourney

Sixth-ranked Center Grove opened its season with a victory at the Yorktown Invitational on Saturday, posting a 3-under-par team score of 285 to beat Guerin Catholic by six shots. Nathan Springer was the medalist with a round of 67, while Brody Holubar and Noah Parsetich each carded a 72 and Coen Bauschek had a 74. James Beetz led the Trojans’ fourth-place White team with a 73.

Grizzly Cubs finish seventh

Franklin got its season started by finishing seventh among 19 teams at the Floyd Central Invitational on Saturday. Kadin Gibson was fourth on the individual leaderboard with a round of 74, while Jake Lock (82), Reid Davidson (83) and Jack Lock (88) rounded out the scoring.

Trojans split two at home invite

Host Center Grove posted a 5-0 victory over Whiteland at the Trojan Classic on Saturday before dropping a tight 3-2 battle with Mt. Vernon. Lauren Dick and Valeria Arriz were double winners on the day at first and third singles, respectively, for the Trojans, while Sloane Small earned one singles victory and was edged in a three-setter against the Marauders.

The Warriors dropped all three of their weekend matches by the same 5-0 score, also falling to Mt. Vernon and Terre Haute South.

Men’s golf places second

Shooting an even-par total of 576, Franklin College fell one stroke short of Spalding at the Polar Beaver Classic, which concluded Saturday at Bluffton. Braxton Christie finished the event with a 2-under 142, his career best and good for second on the individual leaderboard. Zach Ricketts finished at even par with a 144, placing third, while Carter Giggy shot 145 and Jacob Paine 146.

Baseball blanked at Hanover

Franklin College wrapped up its weekend series at Hanover with an 8-0 loss on Sunday. The Grizzlies (13-8, 4-4 HCAC) had previously dropped Saturday’s games by scores of 11-2 and 17-7.
