3 juveniles arrested after shooting at White River Township home

Three juveniles are accused of shooting at a home last weekend in White River Township.

Deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office responded around 10:55 p.m. Saturday to a report of gunfire in the 400 block of Stormhaven Way in the Brookhaven neighborhood of unincorporated White River Township. Gunfire was also heard by residents in the 1500 block of Oakvista Way, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The home on Stormhaven Way was confirmed to have been struck by bullets. Neighbors reported hearing three gunshots, and deputies found shell casings on the street, deputies say.

Deputies interviewed several neighbors and collected video evidence that helped identify the number of individuals involved and the vehicles they used, according to the news release.

This investigation presented a “unique challenge” due to a language barrier. Translators were employed to gather crucial details about the incident. deputies say.

Since the incident, JCSO investigators have also been gathering evidence and conducting multiple interviews, according to the news release.

Investigators visited various addresses on the south side of Indianapolis in Perry Township to locate the suspects on Monday. Three suspects, all 17-year-olds, were arrested on charges of criminal recklessness, and one of them faced an additional charge of possession of a firearm. All three were transported to Johnson County Juvenile Detention, the news release says.

The case, along with the investigation and probable cause affidavit, will now be handed over to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office for review and potential criminal charges, according to the news release.

Johnson County Sheriff Duane Burgess said the incident underscores an ongoing issue in Central Indiana where youth are restoring to firearms to resolve conflicts, which is “completely unacceptable.”

“The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the witnesses who provided video footage and eyewitness accounts,” Burgess said in the news release. “The people of Johnson County do not tolerate such activities in their community, and the sheriff’s office is committed to ensuring those responsible are held accountable.”
