Softball

Center Grove blanks Olympians

Riley Fuhr pitched a two-hitter and Brynn Meyer was 4 for 4 with three runs scored as Class 4A No. 9 Center Grove steamrolled Columbus East on Saturday, 13-0. Hannah Haberstroh, Ava Krupa and Sydney Herrmann each had a home run and two RBIs for the Trojans (11-6), while Riley Janda, Ana Powell and Addison Richards also drove in two runs apiece.

Grizzly Cubs take two of three

Franklin won two of its three games at the Franklin Central Invitational on Saturday, beating the host Flashes 17-2 and getting a walk-off grand slam from Annabelle Richter in an 11-9 triumph over McCutcheon. The Grizzly Cubs (9-7) were defeated by Columbus North, 8-5.

Woodmen split twinbill with Cardinals

Greenwood bounced back from a 3-1 defeat in the first half of its Saturday doubleheader against Southport, rolling to a 13-0 win in the second game. Logan Connor was the winning pitcher in the nightcap for the Woodmen (6-8), tossing four scoreless innings, while Jackson Simms and Jayden Pierce each drove in a pair of runs.

Lancers overpower Eagles

Edinburgh pulled away for a 14-1 triumph at Brown County on Saturday. The Lancers (8-5-1), who have won five out of their last six, got two RBIs from Ayden Swallows while Austin Brockman and Avynn Whitaker scored three runs each. Winning pitcher Jared Myers allowed just one hit in going the full five innings.

Trojans split pair of matches

No. 15 Center Grove was a 4-1 winner over Crown Point on Saturday. Emerson Donaldson and Peri Small were victorious at second and third singles, respectively, while Ava Beecher and Lauren Dick earned a point at No. 1 doubles and the pairing of Kenna Harbin and Anna Runkle did the same at No. 2.

The Trojans also suffered a 4-1 defeat against ninth-ranked Zionsville, with the lone point coming from Beecher and Dick at first doubles.

Whiteland finishes in second

Host Whiteland earned 4-1 victories over Shelbyville and International at its invitational on Saturday before dropping a 5-0 match against University. Cathy Nguyen and Kinsey Shipp teamed up to win a pair of matches at No. 1 doubles for the Warriors (7-10).

Center Grove fourth at HOF tourney

Fourth-ranked Center Grove shot 25 over par at Rock Hollow to place fourth in the Hall of Fame tournament on Saturday, 15 strokes behind No. 5 Homestead. Franklin tied for 15th in the 21-team field at 48 over par.

Track and field competes at HCAC meet

Franklin College took part in the HCAC outdoor championships at Manchester over the weekend, with the men’s and women’s teams both placing sixth. The Grizzly women were led by Sarah O’Day, who won gold in the 100-meter dash, silver in the long jump and bronze in the 200. Alison Muck was second in the 100 hurdles and Ella Bashor took third in the 10,000-meter run. For the men, Logan McIntosh was a winner in the javelin and teamed with Steven Scott, Eli Cochrane and Luke Paddock to finish second in the 4×400 relay.

Softball stays unbeaten in HCAC

Franklin College stayed perfect in HCAC play with 4-1 and 7-2 home victories over Bluffton on Saturday. Eriana Wagner homered in both games for the Grizzlies (25-9, 14-0), breaking her own single-season school record with her 13th dinger of the spring. Lauren Duncan and Stephanni Kleber were the winning pitchers on the day, while Molly Wallace had three doubles among her five hits.

Women’s tennis defeats Quakers

Michiah Draper rallied from a set down at sixth singles as Franklin College finished the regular season with a 5-4 victory over Earlham. Draper also teamed with Samantha Schick for a win at third doubles for the Grizzlies (6-11, 2-4 HCAC), and Sydney Carson and Brenna Atchison both posted singles wins and teamed up for another at No. 2 doubles.

Men’s tennis shuts out Earlham

Franklin College cruised to a 9-0 triumph over Earlham on Saturday. Nathan Jarboe, Dustin Garrison, Ezra Schwier and Marcus Cox were winners at both singles and doubles for the Grizzlies (8-12, 2-4 HCAC).

Baseball swept at Transylvania

Despite Tysen Lipscomb becoming the school’s career RBI leader, Franklin College came up on the short end of two games at Transylvania on Saturday, falling by scores of 7-6 and 14-4.
