Greenwood-Franklin softball halted due to storms

A potentially exciting softball game will have to wait until Wednesday to be completed after storms moved through Johnson County on Tuesday.

After 4 2/3 innings, Greenwood was clinging to a 4-3 lead but host Franklin was threatening in the Mid-State Conference clash.

Greenwood scored three runs in the first thanks to three singles and two errors, before sophomore Aubrey Leugers belted a 1-0 pitch past the left-field fence for the Grizzly Cubs’ first run and her seventh homer of the season.

It was also Leugers’ 30th RBI of the year.

The Woodmen added a run in the second for a 4-1 lead, but the Cubs scored twice in their half of the fourth and had runners on first and third with two outs before the game was called.

According to Franklin coach Ken Sears, it will be completed prior to the scheduled Wednesday game between the two rivals at Greenwood.
