James L. “Jim” Weddle

FRANKLIN

James L. “Jim” Weddle, age 83, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, May 6, 2024 at his home in Franklin.

Jim was born on October 26, 1940 in Trafalgar, to his parents, the late Lester F. and Marie V. (Northern) Weddle. He was a 1959 graduate of Trafalgar High School and attended IUPUI to study Electronics. Jim retired in 1997 as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician for the Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis after 33 years of service. Prior to that, he worked at Arvins in Franklin and Gailes Propane in Morgantown.

Jim was a 40-year member of the Suburban Baptist Church in Indianapolis and a former member of the Lick Springs Church in Trafalgar. He enjoyed driving the church bus at both churches. Jim was also a member of the United Automobile Workers Union Local 1111 in Indianapolis. He enjoyed fishing, playing shuffleboard, tending to his vegetable garden and was a Ham Radio Operator. Jim also enjoyed wintering in North Ft. Myers with his wife, where they attended the Winkler Road Baptist Church. He was an avid listener of Dr. J. Vernon McGee Thru the Bible Radio Program for the past 50 years.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jo (Spaw) Weddle, whom he married on June 17, 1960 in Trafalgar. He is also survived by his children, Sylvia (David) Mills of Columbus, Susan Travelstead of Greenwood and John (Tonie) Weddle of Mt. Washington, KY; siblings, Lennis L. Weddle of Trafalgar and Kenneth E. Weddle of Paris, KY; grandchildren, Jennifer Guffy, Kenneth Mills, Eric Mills, Chris Martin, Carol Anne Weddle, Jacob Weddle and Benjamin Weddle; great grandchildren, Colten John Weddle, Noah Mills, Harrison Guffy, Kaitlyn Mills, Jayden Mills, Ellie Guffy, Eli Mills, Lydia Mills, Evelyn Mills, Calvin Mills, Caleb Mills and Jude Martin.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis M. Pennybaker.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Ford Glover on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery.
