Greenwood sets May 23 open house for Market Plaza project

An open house for Greenwood’s planned improvements to Market Plaza will take place later this month.

From 4 to 6 p.m. May 23, residents and business owners will be able to come to the council chambers at the Greenwood City Center, 300 S. Madison Ave., to learn project details and ask questions to city engineers and planners about the project planned for later this year. Improvements include the addition of sidewalks to both sides of Market Plaza, connecting Old City Park to City Center Park, city officials said.

An early rendering on the city’s website also shows adjustments to the placement and number of parking spaces on the south side of the Walker Plaza shopping center. Work is planned from roughly Coffeehouse Five to Madison Avenue.

The contract time for completion of this project is four months. Officials hope to award a contract for the project during Tuesday’s Redevelopment Commission meeting, City Engineer Mark St. John previously said.

Updates about the project are planned to be posted on its project page, shorturl.at/glCEZ, and on the city’s traffic and notices page, shorturl.at/atMQ3, a city spokesperson said.
