Hazel Ruth (Carver) Goad

FRANKLIN, IN.

Hazel Ruth (Carver) Goad, 90 of Franklin, IN passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Compass Park in Franklin, IN.

She was born April 21, 1934, in Red Boiling Springs, TN to Carson R. Carver and Lolar Vasne (Tuck) Carver. She married James Lealon Goad on December 29, 1951, in Georgia and was welcomed into the family by his parents Carmon Carsley Goad and Lela Gertrude (McClard) Goad, he survives.

She was a loving homemaker. For a short period in the 1960’s, she worked at the Big Cone Drive-in Restaurant in Franklin relaying stories and great memories through the years of her time at the fountain.

Hazel loved school and enjoyed learning from books and the Bible.

She was a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Franklin. Hazel was the caretaker of the family, friends and neighbors. Hazel was a seamstress having made many dresses and pantsuits for herself and daughters throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. Known for her Bar-B-Que chicken, desserts, sweet tea and chocolate pie, her husband’s favorite. She was also an avid shopper.

Hazel, at home in her bed at the age of nine years old, called on our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to help her by saving her lost soul and God saved her. She knew she was saved by the peace He gave her. Hazel has gone to be with her Savior. She would encourage any who may be lost to seek him and be saved so that we all meet in heaven again.

Survivors include her husband of 72 years James Lealon Goad of Franklin, IN, daughters Cindy (Goad) Wolfarth (Mike) of Franklin, IN and Angela (Goad) (Muse) Sturgeon (Mike) of Bloomington, IN grandsons James Wolfarth of Franklin, IN and Samuel Muse of Bargersville, IN, granddaughter-in-law Amber (Walter) Muse of Greenwood, IN, great grandson Easton Muse of Bargersville, IN, a sister Verdie (Carver) Higgins of Cornelius, NC, brothers-in-law Ray Goad (Peggy) of Lafayette, TN, Jimmy Goad of Lafayette, TN, Cordel Adamson of Indianapolis, sisters-in-law Barbara Gregory of Lafayette, TN and Christine Goad of Lafayette, TN and a multitude of precious nieces, nephews on both sides of the family.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carson R. Carver and Lolar Vasne (Tuck) Carver, her son-in-law Mark Muse, brothers Otis Carver (Helen), Aaron Carver (Leslie Mae), Benton Carver (Dexter), Steve Carver (Hilda), sisters AV (Carver) Wilmore (Roy), Louise (Carver) Gregory (JD) and Dorothy (Carver) Adamson, brothers-in-law Charles Goad, Howard Higgins, Shirley Goad (Evon) and Doug Gregory, sisters-n-law Carmolene Willard Phillips (Maxie Willard) and Becky Goad

Pastor Dereck Mobley will conduct a service on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 1PM at Faith Missionary Baptist Church 1400 North Graham Road in Franklin, IN with visitation from 10AM until service time at the church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
