Students are ready to ‘play’

Franklin College theater students will tackle the controversy of wrongful convictions in a play premiering next week.

The college’s theater department will perform Erik Jensen and Jessica Blank’s “The Exonerated” at 8 p.m., beginning Wednesday, Nov. 16, through Nov. 19 and at 2 p.m., Nov. 20. All performances will be in Théâtre Margot in the Johnson Center for Fine Arts, located at the corner of Branigin Boulevard and Grizzly Drive.

The story is based on real-life interviews, letters, transcripts, case files and public records, and tells the stories of six wrongfully convicted survivors of death row.

Moving between first-person monologues and scenes set in courtrooms and prisons, the six interwoven stories paint a picture of what happens when the American criminal justice system goes terribly wrong.
