Edinburgh was defeated in its Mid-Hoosier Conference opener, suffering a 72-46 setback at North Decatur. The loss was the fourth in a row for the Lancers (2-4, 0-1).

Whiteland’s wrestlers went up against a tough Perry Meridian squad Wednesday and wound up dropping a 72-12 decision.

<strong>Men’s hoops splits in Florida</strong>

The Franklin men’s basketball team split a pair of games in Florida this week to move to 2-1 on the season.

On Monday, the Grizzlies edged Florida College 88-84, getting 19 points apiece from Aaron Mann, Blake Oakley and Robbie Prather. At Division II Eckerd College on Tuesday, Franklin suffered a 111-85 defeat. Prather scored 14 points in defeat to pace five players in double figures.

<strong>Burton earns Offensive POY award</strong>

For the second consecutive season, Franklin College quarterback Chase Burton was named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference’s Offensive Player of the Year.

Burton completed 68.3 percent of his passes and threw for 3,761 yards and 42 touchdowns during his junior season, helping the Grizzlies to an 8-2 record.
