<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Local second-grader wins district spelling bee</strong></p>
Benjamin Holets, a second-grader at Greenwood Christian School, placed first in the district spelling bee for the Association of Christian Schools International.

Holets is the son of David and Jennifer Light-Holets of Greenwood.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Franklin education foundation wins grant</strong></p>
Students in Franklin will be able to study more STEM with a grant from a local foundation.

Franklin Education Connection received a $24,800 grant from the Elba L. and Gene Portteus Branigin Foundation.

These funds will be used to continue the after-school S.T.E.M Program with Sylvan Learning Center and begin a new 10X Grant Program for Franklin Community High School students.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Local students serve as pages at the statehouse</strong></p>
Local students got an inside peek at state government by serving as pages at the Indiana Statehouse.

The following students served as pages for State Sen. Rodric Bray (R-Martinsville).

Hunter Meredith, Morgantown, Indian Creek High School

Sydney Settles, Greenwood, St. Richard’s Episcopal School

Pages observe actions on bills, tour the Statehouse and run errands for legislators.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Sheriff’s association to give out 40 scholarships</strong></p>
The Indiana Sheriff’s Association will give 40 $500 college scholarships to qualified high school seniors or college students who are pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.

To qualify for a scholarship, the applicant must be an Indiana resident, be a current member of the association or a dependent child or grandchild of a current member of the association, attend an Indiana college or university, major in a law enforcement field and enroll as a full-time student.

Applications can be downloaded from the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association website at indianasheriffs.org.

Applications must be completed and received no later than April 1.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Indiana credit union offering scholarship</strong></p>
Indiana Members Foundation, the charitable arm of Indiana Members Credit Union, along with Indiana Members Credit Union, is taking applications for the Robert E. Martin Collegiate Scholarship Program available to college students that are members of Indiana Members Credit Union. Ten $5,000 collegiate scholarships will be given.

The scholarship application and instructions can be found online at imf4kids.org. The deadline is March 31.
<p style="text-align: left"><strong>Franklin seniors can earn local scholarship</strong></p>
Graduating Franklin Community High School seniors can apply for a locally-funded scholarship.

The Gilmore Scholarship Trust will award up to $2,000 per year over a four-year period to graduating seniors going to Indiana colleges and universities full time, with preference given to those attending Franklin College.

Application information is available in the school’s guidance office. Deadline for submission is March 31.
