He entered the US Navy in 1944, at the age of 18, and served in WW2 aboard the USS Lake Champlain and moved up in rank to Yeoman 2nd Class. After his two years in the service, he returned to his hometown and met his wife of 59 years, Patsy Christine (Cook) Stewart, who has predeceased him. Before the newlyweds moved to the southside of Indianapolis, Lloyd worked as a sawyer, like his father, as well as a delivery driver for Coca-Cola.

After arriving in Indianapolis, Lloyd began working for Allison Transmission as a Tool Trouble Mechanic/Skilled Tool Tryout. Weekends and summers found him enjoying the country life of his youth. At his summer homes, he raised animals and planted apple orchards with his children and grandchildren. He taught his children how to hunt and fish. Lloyd enjoyed flying airplanes and riding motorcycles. His passion was exploring the great wonders of our country. He was a lifelong member of the NRA, as well as a coin and rock collector. He loved watching the TV network Grit. Lloyd was a passionate philanthropist, making donations to many children’s charities, as well as to veterans programs and police appeals. He retired from Allison’s after 35 years of service and he and his wife moved to a small town near Spencer, called Patricksburg. They later returned to Franklin where Lloyd lived the remainder of his life. About three years ago, he met a son he never knew he had and a bond formed. He passed away on May 12, 2021, just before his 95th birthday.
