Shooting investigation continues

What started as an argument turned into a deadly shooting at a Greenwood home, police said.

Investigators continued sorting out the details of what led to three people being shot on Thursday morning. One man was killed.

But the stories don’t match and police are unsure they will ever know exactly what happened in the home on Meridian Street, Greenwood Assistant Police Chief Matt Fillenwarth said. They also have not found one of the guns from the shooting, he said.

“I don’t know if we are ever going to know the truth,” he said.

By Friday morning, detectives had learned that Karin Castro, 21, Roberto Wangeman, 28, Tania Chaves, 24, and a 17-year-old boy came to the home Thursday morning over an argument one of the men was having with a resident, Fillenwarth said.

What was supposed to be a fight turned into a shooting when shots were fired, striking Felipe Zaragoza, 20, in the leg, he said. Zaragoza was treated and released at the hospital, police said

Zaragoza and his brother, Jose Zaragoza, 24, who both live at the home, fired back, Fillenwarth said.

Multiple shots were fired by multiple people, police said.

The teen was shot in the chest. Castro was shot multiple times and was taken to Eskenazi Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Fillenwarth said.

The juvenile and another man left the home and were later found at a nearby church and taken to the police department. The teen told police he was having trouble breathing, and when emergency workers checked him out, they found he had a bullet wound to his chest and he was taken to the hospital, Fillenwarth said.

Chaves stole a car that was warming up in the driveway and was stopped by police about a mile away on County Line Road, Fillenwarth said.

She was arrested on a charge of auto theft, and taken to the Johnson County jail, where she was held on $1,200 bond, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate.
