MARTINSVILLE
Mary Esther (Smith) Sisson, age 81, passed away peacefully on Monday afternoon, January 22, 2018 at her home in Martinsville.
She was born April 19, 1936 in Indianapolis, to her parents, the late Leonard and Emma (Crane) Smith. Mary was a 1955 graduate of Morgantown High School. She married Charles W. “Charley” Sisson on June 17, 1954 in Martinsville. He lovingly survives after 63 years of marriage.
Mary is also survived by her children, Dr. Annette (Dr. Jimmy Davis) Sisson of Brentwood, TN, Katrina Sisson of Greenwood, Thomas Sisson of Indianapolis and Darrell Sisson of Whiteland; brothers, James Smith of Greenwood and Daniel (Cindy) Smith of Southport; grandchildren, Paul and Evan “Evie” Marie Davis of Brentwood, TN and Carson Brock of Tallahassee, FL; 7 nieces and 12 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Rosalie Hilliard, Paul Smith, Joseph Smith, Colleen Barnett, and Jerimiah Smith.
Mary was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. She was a 10 year member of the Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Martinsville where she enjoyed singing in the choir. Mary also enjoyed traveling, oil painting, sewing and quilting. She was an avid fiction reader as well as a short story writer. Her writings typically involved stories of her family members. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
The Rev. David Vaughn will conduct a funeral service at noon on Friday at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Nast Chapel Cemetery in Martinsville.
