To the editor:
All of us, businesses included, should be thankful for the Democratic Congress of 2009-2010 who quickly put in practice the recovery policies of Barack Obama. From the Republican-crafted crash of 2008, the recovery began in mid-2009 and has given us the longest bull market in history; nine years of steady economic growth, the second longest in history; and the decrease of unemployment from 9.9 percent to 4.7 percent before the 2016 election. That was only .1 percent above the full-employment level.
Thank goodness the do-nothing Congress of the Republicans was not able to derail what the Democrats put in motion. We need another Democratic Congress to keep those successful policies in place and give us some more positive action. We still need a fair and economical national health care plan, a humane and intelligent immigration plan and a fair employment system for workers displaced by technology and relocation. Thanks again to Obama and the Democrats as the ones who did such a “good job” that we are still enjoying it.
