Football sectional pairings announced

Three of the football teams in Sectional 14 helped the Mid-State Conference enjoy one of its most competitive seasons.

They hope to have a similar impact on the postseason.

On Oct. 19, Franklin makes the short drive to play at No. 8 Whiteland in a rematch of the Week 4 contest won by the Warriors, 44-20. Whichever squad is victorious would host Bloomington South a week later in the semifinals.

The other semifinal on Oct. 26 features Bloomington North at third-ranked Martinsville. Whiteland traveled to play on the Artesians’ home field in Week 6, with the Warriors winning, 40-21.

Center Grove, ranked No. 8 in 6A, gets a week off following Friday’s regular-season finale at home against perennial power Cathedral. The Trojans will use the time to prepare for ninth-ranked Columbus North, its opponent in on Oct. 26.

In Class 3A, Indian Creek, winner of three consecutive games, plays its opener at Crispus Attucks. A victory would allow the Braves to host Indianapolis Manual the following week and possibly play third-ranked Chatard in the final.

Defending 4A semistate qualifier Greenwood plays its first-round game at New Castle. Should the Woodmen prevail, they would take on the Shelbyville-Mt. Vernon (Fortville) winner in the semifinals.

In Class A, Edinburgh seeks its first victory of the season and first postseason triumph in five years when it plays at winless Cambridge City Lincoln.

A win would earn the Lancers a date with the Oldenburg Academy-Hagerstown winner.
