Edinburgh man faces string of charges

An Edinburgh man is being held at the Johnson County jail without bond after deputies arrested him this weekend during a routine traffic stop.

Coy Anthony Miller, 19, 306 Lincoln Street, was arrested on charges of possession of a restricted drug injection device, possession of paraphernalia, possession of narcotics, false informing and two separate charges for violating community corrections after police discovered he had two warrants out for his arrest related to past drug charges.

Deputies stopped a car about 3:30 p.m. Sunday for traveling too slow in the fast lane on U.S. 31, near County Road 250 South, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office. The driver of the vehicle was not arrested. Miller was the passenger.

He originally gave deputies an incorrect name, but his correct date of birth, and deputies were able to figure out that he was actually Coy Miller and was wanted on two felony warrants out of Johnson County, the report said.

When they tried to place Miller in handcuffs, he tensed up and began arguing with them that he was not Coy, deputies said.

Deputies found a backpack in the passenger side floor board that contained several unused syringes, alcohol prep pads, a 1/2 teaspoon with residue resembling heroin, scissors, several small zip-lock pill bags commonly used for narcotics distribution and several blank checks belonging to other people.

While deputies were taking Miller to the jail, he apologized that he had lied to them and said that the backpack was his.

He told jail workers he had used both heroin and methamphetamine Sunday morning.

The driver was given a warning for driving under the speed limit and released.
