Woman arrested after she flips her car, strikes 2 others on Christmas

A Greenwood woman was arrested on Christmas Day after she flipped her car in a residential neighborhood while driving under the influence.

Brittani R. Bryan, 26, 639 Day Break Drive, was arrested on a charge of operating while under the influence.

When deputies arrived to a house in the 1300 block of Stormhaven Way, they found an inverted car and a woman sitting on the curb surrounded by people, according to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies asked a man standing near the scene of the crash who was involved and he pointed to the woman and said she was drunk, the report said.

Deputies and firefighters could smell a strong alcohol odor coming from the woman and the car, they said.

Two other vehicles were damaged during the crash, according to the report.

Bryan didn’t respond to officers at the scene of the crash, and was too impaired to be given any field sobriety tests; she couldn’t walk on her own, deputies said. A family member told deputies they pulled her out of the car after the crash, the report said.

She was taken to an area emergency room. While being transported to the hospital, she vomited continuously into a plastic bag, deputies said.

At the hospital, when deputies asked her if anyone else was in the vehicle with her, she quickly answered, “Nobody was in my car,” according to the report.

She told deputies she was driving home from her sister’s house.

While waiting for the doctors to finish paperwork at the hospital, a man arrived claiming to be Bryan’s brother and legal counsel. He told her to stop talking freely to the deputies and began questioning them, the report said.

He told deputies he was in an “undergraduate program for an attorney’s office,” they said. Deputies asked him to step out of the room after he continuously interrupted them and the nurses, they said.

Bryan is being held at the Johnson County jail on $1,000 bond.
