TRAFALGAR
Hollis (King) Southerland, age 84, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, December 24, 2018 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus. She was a resident of Trafalgar.
Hollis was born August 21, 1934 in Franklin to her parents, the late Elmer and Mable (Walden) King. She was a 1952 graduate of Franklin High School and went on to marry Donald C. “Don” Southerland on December 31, 1953 in Franklin. He survives after 64 loving years of marriage.
Hollis is also survived by her children, Scott (Teresa) Southerland of Nashville and Bill (Tammy) Southerland of Trafalgar; sisters, Doris Gray of Lafayette and Ruth Rairdon of Franklin; grandchildren, Keith Southerland of Trafalgar, Andrew Southerland of Franklin, Sarah Southerland and Michael Southerland both of Nashville, Jena Gault of Morgantown and Matthew Dugan of Franklin; great grandchildren, Aubree, Dakota, Gideon, Brianna and Josie.
She was preceded in death by children, Joseph Southerland and Terri Dugan; siblings, Keith, Verlin and Loren King.
Hollis was a loving wife, mother and homemaker. During the 1970’s & 80’s she worked at Indian Springs Golf Course in Trafalgar and prior to that she worked as an office assistant in the Dean’s Office at Franklin College.
Hollis enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV visiting many states. Together they wintered in the Florida Panhandle for over 26 years. She also enjoyed oil painting, watching Fox News, playing the piano and spending time spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hollis will be remembered for her great cooking and the feast she provided every year at Thanksgiving for her family.
The Rev. Stan Icenogle will conduct a funeral service on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center, 179 E. Mulberry Street in Morgantown. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at First Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Franklin.
