Community invited to free Thanksgiving meal

Thanksgiving is a time to celebrate and share the blessings we’ve been given.

On Thursday, people from all over the area will do that together as a community during the Johnson County Thanksgiving Banquet.

Here is what you need to know about the event:

What is the Thanksgiving banquet?

The annual banquet is a free community event that brings the community together over a shared meal. The banquet was formed in 2008 in response to the flood that devastated the county, and now draws more than 1,000 people each Thanksgiving.

How can I take part?

The banquet will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Scott Hall at the Johnson County fairgrounds. People can simply come to the fairgrounds between those hours to eat.

What will be included?

The meal will feature turkey and all of the regular fixings: stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans and other sides, rolls and desserts. Beverages are also provided.
