Grizzly Cubs handle Olympians
Drew Byerly scored 22 points and Damon Dickey added 13 in Franklin’s 59-48 victory at Columbus East on Saturday. The Grizzly Cubs (9-8) were behind by six after the opening quarter but used an 18-5 advantage in the second to take the lead for good.
"Damon helped get us going a little bit, and Drew got activated; he is one that always scores a lot of points for us," Franklin coach Brad Dickey said. "We had a lot of kids that handled the ball tonight. A lot of kids got on the scoreboard, so it was a positive experience."

Swimmers retain HCAC titles
Franklin College’s men and women both successfully defended their HCAC swimming and diving titles, closing out the three-day meet in victorious fashion Saturday in Terre Haute. The women finished with 832.5 points, more than 400 ahead of runner-up Transylvania, while the men put up 721 to edge Rose-Hulman by eight.
"Capturing two HCAC titles in consecutive years is special for everyone involved because they weren’t won on a single weekend," Grizzlies coach Andy Hendricks said. "They were won over the days, weeks and months that these amazing student-athletes commit to their craft and to Franklin College."
The women got victories Saturday from Caileigh McCafferty (200 backstroke), Courtnee Coffman (100 freestyle), August Hartzell (200 breaststroke), Anna Perkins (200 butterfly) and the 400 freestyle relay team. On the men’s side, the Grizzlies got wins from James Hone (200 backstroke), Dylan Harker (200 breast), Charlie Hall (200 fly) and Gauge Creech (1-meter diving).
Women’s basketball edges Anderson
Franklin College secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming HCAC tournament by pulling out a 57-52 victory over visiting Anderson on Saturday. Destinee Cross had 14 points to lead the Grizzlies (14-9, 10-6), while Isabella Ratliff chipped in 10.
Men’s basketball drops high-scoring affair
Borden Kennedy’s 20 points paced four Franklin College players in double figures, but that still wasn’t enough offense to avoid a 106-87 home loss to Anderson on Saturday. The Grizzlies (15-8, 11-5 HCAC) also got 18 points from Payton Mills, 17 from Matt Krause and 10 from Kale Morris.
