Two arrested in connection to catalytic converter thefts

Two men were arrested in connection to the thefts of two catalytic converters from an Edinburgh car lot.

Randal Eugene Eggers, 21, of Martinsville, and Dustin E. Sexton, 37, of Indianapolis, were arrested on charges of theft Saturday night.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a theft report at an auto group and repair shop on U.S. 31, and the owners were pursuing the suspects in their cars with a firearm, according to a Johnson County Sheriff’s Office report.

Deputies pulled over the suspects, identified as Eggers and Sexton, on U.S. 31, and detained them. Deputies found two cut catalytic converters behind the front passenger seat, according to the report.

Eggers told deputies Sexton bought the converters from another shop. Sexton agreed and said Eggers picked him up to go to the auto group in Edinburgh, where they were chased from, the report said.

Deputies found one of the converters was cut smoothly, and the other was cut in a jagged motion, according to the report. Back at the Edinburgh car lot, the officers matched both catalytic converters, based on the way each one was cut, to two vehicles in the lot that with missing converters.

Eggers and Sexton were arrested and taken to the Johnson County jail. Eggers is held on $1,200 bond, and Sexton is held on $2,400 bond.
