1 P.M. UPDATE:

Students have been cleared to return to their classes.

EARLIER STORY:

Whiteland Community High School students were evacuated at 11:30 a.m., following a reported bomb threat, officials have confirmed.

Students and staff are outside while police and bomb-sniffing dogs search the building, said Rick Hightower, a spokesperson for the district. Local police and fire agencies are at the scene to assist Clark-Pleasant school police.

School officials received information about the threat and police immediately began to assess the situation. Police asked that the school be evacuated for the search, and parents were notified as soon as students were safely evacuated, Hightower said.

Police were still searching the building around 12:30 p.m. In addition to the building search, school police will also investigate the source of the threat, he said.

Students are safe and not being released to parents at this time. The goal is to clear the building and get them back to class, Hightower said.
