Edinburgh Thanksgiving shooting victim identified

The victim of the Edinburgh Thanksgiving Day shooting was identified as Wayne E. McGeorge, 49 of Edinburgh.

The cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy, according to the Bartholomew County Coroner’s office.

Damion Bryant, 20 of Edinburgh, was arrested on a preliminary charge of murder by the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office and is being held at the Bartholomew County jail.

Deputies responded to a report of a shooting in the 15000 block of N. Bluff Road in Edinburgh at 6:13 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they found McGeorge with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen, the release says.

The German Township Fire Department and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS administered medical aid at the scene, but the man was later pronounced deceased at Columbus Regional Hospital, the release says.

Bryant was identified as the gunman, and was taken into custody and interviewed by Bartholomew County detectives. The incident was a family-related dispute, said Dane Duke, a Bartholomew County detective.

The investigation is ongoing, Duke said in a statement.

The Edinburgh Police Department and the Columbus Police Department assisted at the scene.
