Celebration of life, fundraiser for Trooper Smith set for Sunday

Bargersville-based CGX CrossFit will be hosting an event in honor of fallen Indiana State Trooper Aaron Smith this weekend.

The Aaron Smith Memorial Workout of the Day and Fundraiser will take place on Sunday at CGX CrossFit, 571 Industrial Drive, Bargersville. Smith, 33, was an active member of the CGX CrossFit community in Bargersville. Funds raised during the event will directly support Smith’s wife and family, according to the Indiana State Police.

Smith died in the line of duty on June 28th after police say a Missouri man intentionally veered into the lane where he was deploying stop sticks to strike him during a police pursuit on Ronald Reagan Parkway in Hendricks County.

The community is invited to attend this event, and participation in a workout is not required. The celebration of life is expected to begin at approximately 1:45 p.m. Sunday. Workouts will be at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m., according to the fitness center.

Those wanting more information about the event are asked to contact Jen Binkley at 317-435-7125. Information about contributing a monetary donation can be found at www.IndianaFallen.org
