Former Center Grove football player Carson Steele made his UCLA debut a good one, with 13 carries for 76 yards in the Bruins’ 27-13 win over Coastal Carolina at the Rose Bowl.
The junior running back also caught four passes for 20 yards and a score.
Center Grove
Ohio State sophomore defensive end Caden Curry had four tackles in the team’s 23-3 victory at Indiana. For the Hoosiers, quarterback Tayven Jackson completed 1 of 5 pass attempts for 24 yards and carried the ball three times for 11 yards, while linebacker Matt Hohlt recorded a pair of tackles and running back Daniel Weems added one.
Defensive lineman Lucas Hunter recorded two tackles and forced a fumble for Indiana State in its 27-0 home loss to Eastern Illinois.
Senior goalkeeper Ian Rowe made five saves for Franklin College men’s soccer in its 3-0 loss to visiting Wabash College.
Freshman Parker Mimbela made his collegiate debut by placing 26th in a time of 27 minutes, 59.9 seconds as Indiana State men’s cross country opened its season at the 8-kilometer EIU Walt Crawford Open.
Senior middle blocker Jamie Brown finished with four kills and a dig as the Indiana State women’s volleyball squad posted a 1-2 mark at the Lindenwood Invitational.
Junior defensive specialist Ashley Eck completed play with totals of 53 digs and 10 assists as Eckerd College volleyball won all three matches it played at the NSU Shark Invitational.
Winthrop came up winless in three matches at the Summit Hospitality Group Open, with junior defensive specialist Rylie McMahen providing six digs against North Carolina State.
Ball State volleyball participated in Creighton’s Bluejay Invitational, dropping all three matches. Outside hitter Katie Egenolf finished the tourney with 18 kills and 11 digs.
Senior setter Madison Hammill had 16 assists and 12 digs as No. 1 Wisconsin volleyball remained unbeaten by downing Tennessee in five sets.

Senior tight end Drew Byerly finished with two receptions for a total of 24 yards as Marian football won at Judson, 40-6.
Ball State senior linebacker Clayton Coll picked up four tackles in the Cardinals’ 44-14 season-opening loss at Kentucky before exiting with a potentially season-ending ankle injury.
Senior Eli Cochrane placed 36th overall in a time of 17 minutes, 17 seconds, as Franklin College opened the men’s cross country season finish sixth of eight teams at its own invitational. University of Indianapolis graduate student Andrew Bixler was seventh individually in 16:07.7.
IUPUI volleyball hosted the Hampton Inn Invitational, winning two of three matches. Senior setter Brooke Phillips finished with totals of 23 digs and seven assists.
Jacksonville sophomore outside hitter Cami Kelsay finished her team’s five-set loss to The Citadel with nine kills, and its 3-0 sweep of Florida A&M with six kills and two digs.

Wabash College linebacker Gavin Ruppert tied for team honors with 11 tackles and added a pass breakup as the Little Giants won their season opener at Hampden-Sydney, 29-28.
Connecticut volleyball lost in four sets to Lehigh despite the 16 kills and 12 digs of freshman outside hitter Mya Ayro, who also had 10 kills and seven digs in a victory over Merrimack.
Franklin College senior Mallory Watson placed 46th in 25:00.05 as the Grizzlies opened the women’s cross country season with their own invitational.

Senior Zach Ricketts shot a three-round score of 238 for Franklin College men’s golf, which placed 14th of 17 teams at the Transylvania Fall Invite.
Trine junior Hannah Parker helped the women’s cross country team place second out of four teams at the Mastodon Open, taking 19th individually in a time of 20:27.0.
Taylor redshirt sophomore outside hitter Sarah Scott finished with 13 kills in the team’s five-set loss at Bethel.

Sophomore Braxton Christie posted scores of 84, 72 and 75 as Franklin College men’s golf took part in the Transylvania Fall Invite.

Senior outside hitter Grace Hegwood (Greenwood) produced 48 kills and 41 digs over the course of four matches for the University of Indianapolis volleyball team, which won three of four matches at the Ferris State Invitational.
Wabash College sophomore cornerback Michael Hegwood (Greenwood) made three tackles for the Little Giants in their 29-28 victory at Hampden-Sydney.
