Don McGlocklin recalls a time — he’s pretty sure it was during his sophomore season in 1971-72 — when Dick Harmening, then the boys basketball coach at Franklin, came into a team meeting sporting a state championship ring that he had earned as an assistant at Indianapolis Washington seven years earlier.

Arkansas offers one of the greatest fishing spots for children in the country. It’s called Dry Run Creek. This gorgeous little stream is full of giant trout. It’s located next to the Norfork National Fish Hatchery a few miles east of Mountain Home. It fishes for less than a mile from the hatchery outflow to its confluence with the Norfork River just below the dam. Only youths under 16 and mobility impaired anglers may fish Dry Run Creek.

Mount St. Joseph freshman Macy Cornelius was 3 for 4 with a triple, three runs scored and five driven in during a doubleheader sweep of Rose-Hulman. The performance upped Cornelius’ batting average to a team-leading .467.

Nick Patton and Janae Johnson have known each other since sixth grade, the infancy of their respective track and field careers.

Softball

Though Wednesday’s game was far more dramatic than it maybe needed to be, Franklin baseball will take conference wins any way it can get them, style points be damned.
