William H. Skaggs

BARGERSVILLE

William Houston Skaggs, 79, passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, in Franklin. He was a resident of Bargersville.

William was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Bonnieville, Kentucky, to Earl E. and Mamie (Hatfield) Skaggs.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was employed at Ford Motor Co. in manufacturing for more than 20 years, retiring in 1978.

William was past president of UAW Local 1111. He was a member of American Legion Post 205 in Franklin, Masonic Lodge 545 and Order of the Eastern Star 584, both of Union Village. He was past master of the Masonic Lodge and past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star.

One of William’s greatest enjoyments was when his family would gather together for playing music and singing.

He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved spending time with them.

Survivors include two children, Debbie L. (David) Edwards of Greenwood and Vickie Clark of Bargersville; two sisters, Ruth Parkhurst of Franklin and Lillian (Gene) Rogers of Greenwood; three brothers, Leroy (Rosie) Skaggs of Whiteland, Robert (Nancy) Skaggs of Tennessee and Rusty (Brenda) Skaggs of Bargersville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Margaret (Wilson) Skaggs, in 2007; his father, Earl Skaggs; mother, Mamie Skaggs Mathena; a son, Darrell Skaggs; two brothers, James and Charles Skaggs; a sister, Thelma Beadle; and a son-in-law, Steve Clark.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Jessen Funeral Home, Whiteland Chapel, 729 U.S. 31 North. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, with at Masonic service at 5:30 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.
